A happy find: Parklets in the 'burbs!

Shortly after my husband and I moved to the area from San Francisco, we happened upon a Parklet in downtown Los Altos.

This was a pleasant surprise, since Parklets originated in San Francisco (which, being San Francisco, have since become somewhat controversial) and we were very familiar and fond of them. But it also gave me pause because it seemed a bit out of place here in suburbia, where downtown sidewalks are wide and welcoming with many places to sit and open/green space is generally abundant. It was clearly well-received and utilized on this warn Indian Summer day back in September 2012, but I haven't seen one since, nor could I find any information about plans for more to come. So it begs the question - do Parklets belong in the 'burbs?
